One Nation Under God
Regardless Of Who Is President, God Is The Almighty Ruler.
Today was day two of my gratitude plan in the Bible App.
It led me to Romans, my favorite book of the Bible. The focus scripture was Romans 12:9-18, however I spent my time in Romans 12 and 13. As we continue in our election results, this section on relations to society and to government, could not have shown up at a better time.
Here are some key points.
- Bless those who persecute you
- rejoice with those who rejoice
- weep with those who weep
- be of the same mind toward one another
- do not be wise in your own opinion
- repay no one evil with evil
- have regard for good things in the sight of all men
- Live peaceably with all men
- God is the upmost authority and all authorities are anointed by him
- whoever resists the authority, resists the ordinance of God
Our nation is in a great divide, and each party feels strongly about their beliefs and their candidate. But if we live out God’s word, we all have a lot of work to do with either “winning” graciously or “losing” with acceptance.
I’ve been avoiding social media and the news because it is so full of hatred, conceit, and disrespect. But according to scripture, our reaction should be that of faith. We all want what we think is best, and both sides have excellent points. We just become so confident in our own opinions, we don’t consider the other. It doesn’t help that our minds are fed with other’s opinions, leading us down paths that distort our own thoughts.
So What Do We Do?
Here is what we need to do. Do our due diligence in the policies of the party, but keep in mind that both candidates are God’s children. God created them and is well aware of their character. Whoever is our elected officials, will be put there for God’s use. We may or not may not be happy with the results, but in four years we can vote again. In the meantime, we need to know that the book of life has already been written. Everything that happens is by design, as a way to get us to the end. We will learn along the way. That’s what this is all about: a journey; a series of lessons. We, as a nation, need to accept the outcome, thank God for his master plan, be respectful to authority, and kind to one another.
Prayer
Lord, bless this great country by putting into office the candidate you see our nation needs most. Be with the people. Help us to unite, not necessarily in our beliefs, but in our treatment of one another. Give strength and wisdom to our elected officials, and show our people how to live in harmony. In Jesus name, Amen.
