Reason For The Season
Do you believe in Jesus Christ as your savior?
It is easy to lose sight of the real meaning of Christmas. I, myself, am guilty of getting caught up in the commercialism. I love it all. The lights, the shopping, the music and movies, the traditions of gingerbread, decorations, and Santa. With all of the hustle and bustle, we forget what we are really celebrating.
I would be a failing Christian if I did not use this opportunity to invite all of my friends to get to know the real reason we celebrate Christmas.
How It All Began
Let’s go back over 2000 years. The world was broken. It was evident in the hearts of the people. There was corruption in government, violence, plague and disease. It doesn’t sound much different than today, does it? The Lord knew he had to save his believers.
God sent his only son, born of a virgin, to live on earth among us, to spread the word of how we should be living here, as well as how to gain eternal life in heaven when our time on earth ends. This baby was Jesus, and we celebrate his birthday on Christmas. (Luke 2)
All of our activities should be presented as birthday gifts to Jesus Christ, and I myself need to redirect my thoughts and plans many times throughout the season, and stay in check with what God wants from me.
You should know, the story of Jesus does not end with His birth, Obvi! While He lived His life here on earth teaching His disciples and spreading his love, his real purpose was his death. He lived his life as we are not even capable of doing, and he died of a death we deserve to die.
Why Did He Die For Us?
Why did he die for us? Because he loves us. The Lord said that whoever believes in him and accepts that Jesus was born and died for us, will be blessed. Blessed by the Holy Spirit living with us here- Jesus living in your very heart, to guide you through this broken world. It is also through Jesus and this Holy Spirit, that when we die we join Jesus and all of the other believers for an eternal life in heaven.
Why Do I Tell You This?
Why do I tell you this? Because 1. We are celebrating Christmas and it only seems right to know what we are really participating in. And 2. Our world remains very broken, and sometimes I wonder if it can get much more broken before the Lord decides to call his children home. There will be a day. No one knows when, but a day is promised, when we all leave this world. If you do not accept the Lord, Jesus Christ, as your Savior, you will not only have missed out on his tremendous blessings here, but you will be denied into the gates of heaven. I want to see all of my friends and family through those gates.
If any of my friends, family, or even strangers, want to know more about this, please contact me, open your Bibles, turn to the Bible app, or find a local church. Educate yourself and speak to God. It doesn’t have to be a formal prayer. No fancy words needed. It can be as simple as, “Dear Lord. Thank you for sending your son Jesus, to live among us. And thank you for sacrificing him for me. I believe and ask that the Holy Spirit lives within me as my Savior. Amen.” So simple, and yet for some it is the hardest thing to do. Don’t wait. Do it today.
